Animal research: medical applications


The initial studies studies in this sequence demonstrate that invasive chimpanzee studies contribute little, if anything, toward biomedical progress and advancements in human healthcare. They provide scientific and philosophical arguments to support a global ban on such research. The following letter and article discuss Dr Robert Matthews’ demolition of claim that virtually every medical achievement of the last century has depended directly or indirectly on research with animals, in a recent edition of the J Royal Soc Med.
